AIP equips Allgäu Research Center with modern testing technology for fuel cells.

Kempten, October 2025 – The Allgäu Research Center is sending a clear signal for the future: with new technical equipment in the field of hydrogen, the center is expanding its capabilities in research, development, and application of this key technology. The state-of-the-art hydrogen test benches come from AIP Automotive GmbH, an experienced partner for testing and automation technology that is making a significant contribution to the equipment.

Managing Director Benedikt Grob and his team were on site for the commissioning. Prof. Dr. Matthias Klingele, head of the hydrogen laboratory, gave the guests a tour of the new premises and provided exciting insights into current research projects. The new test benches enable the precise characterization of the electrochemical properties of both small laboratory cells and full-scale fuel cells directly on site.

The systems are used, among other things, in the Giraffe, DirectStack2Scale, and Qualle research projects, which are funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) as part of the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP2). With the help of AIP testing technology, comprehensive service life analyses can be carried out in which fuel cells are subjected to defined load cycles over several hundred hours. The data obtained makes an important contribution to the further development of efficient and durable fuel cell technologies.

“We are delighted to be able to support Kempten University of Applied Sciences with our testing technology in this important research work,” emphasizes Benedikt Grob, Managing Director at AIP. “Projects like this show how practical research and industrial expertise can drive innovation forward together.”
